Summer Farewell

RIDING WHEN SUMMER SAYS GOOD-BYE

Summer is still trying to defend its position and the days at this time of the year are often wonderful sunny, but a touch of autumn is already in the air. During this tour we bring back home the herd to Grýtubakki, but with a little detour into the breathtaking valley of Flateyrardalur.

 

DETAILED TOUR DESCRIPTION:

Day 1

Our guests are picked up in Akureyri in the late afternoon. A thirty minutes’ drive will bring us to the farmhouse Grýtubakki. After dinner details about the following days will be provided. Overnight stay at Grýtubakki.

 

Day 2

After breakfast, we drive to Fremstafell where we saddle our horses for the first riding excursion, which takes us alongside the river Skjálfandafljót. Today we do not ride with the herd.

Dinner and overnight stay at Grýtubakki.

  

 

Day 3

After breakfast, we drive by bus again to Fremstafell, where we saddle our horses - but this time we take the herd with us. We ride along Lake Ljósavatn into the valley of Fnjóskádalur and to the Farm of Hallgilsstaðir and further on to Böðvarsnes. Here the horses stay overnight and we drive back to Grýtubakki, where we will have dinner and sleep.

  

 

Day 4

Today we ride from Böðvarsnes into Flateyrardalur and all the way to Heiðarhús, where we will spend the night. Also today we ride with the herd.

  

 

Day 5

We leave Heiðarhús and ride with the herd through Flateyrardalur into Fnjóskádalur and back to Grýtubakki. Finally the herd is back home after an intensive summer, where they have been running for hundreds of kilometers.

  

 

Day 6

Today we will ride in the surroundings of Grýtubakki and enjoy the beautiful landscape and the view to the fjord Eyjafjörður. Dinner and overnight stay at Grýtubakki.

  

 

Day 7

After breakfast we will bring our guests back to Akureyri.
